Satie's 'Gymnopedies,' published in 1888 were three piano compositions, each written in 3/4 time and sharing a common theme and structure. Collectively, the 'Gymnopedies' are seen as the precursors to modern ambient music - gentle, yet somewhat eccentric pieces which, when composed, defied the classical tradition. Gymnopedie No. 2 is least well-known of the three, however the dreamy, ambient nature of the music is just as effective as No. 1 and No. 3 for romantic and contemplative scenes. This is a solo harp arrangement, with the music transposed up slightly.
